Cally Thein

Cally Thein is a leader of the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Myanmar.

Early Life

Mr. Cally Thein

Cally Thein was born on March 31, 1966, in Naungkaraing Village, Hpa-an Township, Kayin State, Myanmar.. His parents were U Thein Nay and Daw Naw Mu, who belong to the Karen tribe. His father and mother were Seventh-day Adventists. They lived in Naungkaraing Village, Hpa-an Township, Kayin State. His father was a farmer. He has two siblings, U Calson Thein and U Calvin.

Education and Marriage

            Cally Thein went to the government Primary School Naungkaraing Village, Hpa-an Township, Kayin State from KG to Grade 4. After that, he transferred to the government school in Hpa-an and studied there for grade 5. In 1977-1979, he studied at the Adventist seminary which was situated in Balugyun, Mon State, for Grade 5 and 6.  And he continued his studies at Ohn Daw Adventist Seminary in Grade 7&8. After that, he continued his studies in Grade 9 in Mountain View Adventist Seminary at Tarbyae, Taung Ngu.  And continued his studies at Myaung Mya in Grade 10 to 12 in 1982 1984.  He studied for MTC three-year courses from 1985 and graduated  in March 1989. He was upgraded and finished his BA religion degree in May 27, 1997.

            He started his career for the mission work in May 1989, as an office clerk in Mawlamyine, South East Mission Headquarters.  In 1990, he was transferred to Ohn Daw Adventist Seminary, to serve as a school cashier/Accountant. And in June 1996, he was transferred to Mawlamyine, South East Mission Headquarters, to serve as an accountant. In 1998, he was assigned to serve as a Mission treasurer.  In 2006, he was transferred to Naungkaraing church and he served as a church pastor for two years. In  2008, he was transferred to South East Adventist Seminary, to serve as a School Principal. In 2010, he was transferred to Mawlamyine, South East Mission Headquarters, to serve as a mission treasurer. After that, in May 2015, he was assigned to serve as a Union treasurer until now.

            He is married to Daw Nan Awa Lout Chaint. They are blessed with three children: Saw Dennis Thein, an AUP graduate with an MA in Education Administration, is currently employed as a teacher at Yangon Adventist Seminary; Nan Deborah Thein is a nursing student at the Adventist University of Indonesia in Bandung; and Nan Doeria Thein, the yongest daughter, is a student at MUAS, specializing in BA Education.
